Fritz Ollendorff

Fritz Ollendorff (often misspelled "Olle village"; * 29. March 1912 in Darmstadt ; † 29. March 1977 in Zurich ) was a German opera singer (pitch Bass , specialist basso buffo ).

Life

He studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and Milan , made his debut in Basel in 1937 , where he stayed until 1951. In 1951 he became a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein , from 1956–58 he was a member of the Stuttgart State Theater ensemble .

Fritz Ollendorff was an internationally sought-after singer well into the 1960s and is well documented on sound carriers with his broad, nuanced voice and his comic talent. The high point of his career were his two recordings of Bartolo from the Barber of Seville : 1957 in Italian (with Tito Gobbi and Maria Callas as partners), 1965 in German (with Peter Schreier and Hermann Prey ).
