from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fritz Schwab Jr. ( born October 2, 1932 in Innsbruck ; † February 3, 2022 in Kematen in Tirol ) was an Austrian manager and from 1987 to 1999 president of FC Wacker Innsbruck .

life and career

His father, Fritz Schwab senior, was chairman of the board of FC Wacker Innsbruck several times (February 20, 1932 to March 16, 1934 and April 15, 1937 to August 25, 1938). Fritz Schwab Jr. started his sporting career at FC Wacker Innsbruck and was a goalkeeper in the 1950s and 1960s while his father was elected president from 1957 to 1964. After his active time, he held several positions at FC Wacker Innsbruck and in the syndicate with Wattens : secretary, board member or vice president.

When FC Swarovski Tirol was founded, Schwab accepted the presidency of the Black-Greens in 1987 and wanted to lead the club back into the Bundesliga. Five seasons later, the club advanced to the fourth division, the Tyrolean League, and qualified for the Regionalliga West. Since FC Swarovski Tirol disbanded again, FC Wacker Innsbruck played in the Bundesliga in the 1992/93 season and finished fifth.

A new club, FC Tirol Innsbruck , was founded in Innsbruck in 1993 and took over the Bundesliga license for the 1993/94 season from FC Wacker Innsbruck, which thereby found itself back in the Regionalliga Tirol. Schwab planned his own sports field with a canteen, which he was unable to realize. Due to a reform, Innsbruck played in the 1996/97 season in the Regionalliga West. Due to a lack of financial resources, he had to reduce costs for the team. The club finished last and was relegated to the Tyrolean League. A year later, the Innsbruckers were relegated to the second class and broke up debt-free. A junior team was founded with FC Tirol Innsbruck, which was integrated with the amateurs of FC Tirol Innsbruck in the 1999/2000 season.

Schwab worked in the family-owned company Anton Schwab & Söhne, which was later called Schwab Druck Kartonagen and was taken over by the Constantia Group .
