Fritz Schwarz (pastor)

Fritz Schwarz (born January 18, 1930 ; † July 5, 1985 ) was a Protestant pastor, superintendent in Herne , author and founder of the missionary community building in the Evangelical Church in Germany .

Live and act

Schwarz studied Protestant theology in Bonn , Göttingen and Marburg . From 1967 to 1985 he was superintendent of the Herne church district in the Ruhr area . Together with many pastors in his church district, he pursued targeted missionary congregation development in order to awaken and promote faith in those who were interested and to revive and renew the Protestant church. He also supported the “Third World Information Center” project, which was founded in 1976, and sponsored many camps, youth weeks, Lord's parties, open evenings and the so-called “floor lamp talks”. His actual program was called "Manageable Congregation" and shaped the church discussion on the topic in the 1980sEvangelism in the People's Church . He wrote books from church practice and was also active as a consultant for other pastors and parishes.

His work was also formative for his son, the Protestant theologian Christian A. Schwarz (* 1960), who initially published together with him and derived and developed the concept of “natural community development” from it.

Schwarz died unexpectedly at the age of 56 and was buried in the Evangelical Cemetery in Wanne-Eickel .
