Already during the Talheim autumns of the 1930s he appeared publicly as a local poet. Many poems were written during his internment in Ludwigsburg, and many more poems were written on the occasion of housewarming ceremonies in the post-war period or on the occasion of birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. Springer has published a total of three volumes of poetry. The painter Hanns Reeger illustrated some of Springer's poems, the composer Robert Edler set some poems to music.
