Fritz Steinacker
Fritz Steinacker (born December 25, 1921 in Queck ; † January 6, 2016 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a lawyer and notary in Frankfurt am Main.
Steinacker became known as a criminal defense attorney and lawyer for Nazi criminals such as Josef Mengele (since 1961), Aribert Heim (since 1962), Otto Hunsche , Victors Arājs , Hermann Krumey , Pery Broad , Arnold Strippel and Victor Capesius . Among other things, Steinacker was involved in the 1st Auschwitz Trial (together with his mentor Hans Laternser , in whose law firm Dr. Laternser & Steinacker he had been a junior partner since 1955) and in the Majdanek Trial . In a number of lawsuits, he received significantly milder sentences than life for his clients, up to and including obtaining suspended sentences . He himself assumed that he had defended suspected Nazi criminals in more than 25 cases. He also exercised legal powers out of court for several people from this group.
According to the membership card, he himself joined the NSDAP on September 1, 1939 . He received his pilot training from 1941 in Finsterwalde, among other places . He then fought as a bomber pilot in combat squadrons.
In the Federal Republic of Germany he became a party member of the CDU at the end of the 1970s and, according to his own statement, counted himself as part of the liberal wing of the party. Steinacker was chairman of the Frankfurt gymnastics and sports community . For his services in this office he received the Federal Cross of Merit .
Fritz Steinacker was the father of Peter Steinacker , the church president of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau.
