Fritz Steudtner

Fritz Steudtner (born July 16, 1896 in Olbersdorf ; † March 28, 1986 in Dresden ) was a German architect and preservationist .

After completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter, Steudtner studied at the Görlitz building trade school until 1921 . He then worked as a construction technician. In 1923 he went to Dresden, where he completed a degree in architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts by 1927 , supplemented by urban planning, interior design and building history at the Technical University of Dresden . One of his teachers was Heinrich Tessenow , whose master student Steudtner was. In 1928 Steudtner went into business for himself as an architect. Kurt Nowotny was one of the employees in his architecture office .

Before the Second World War, Steudtner built numerous residential buildings in and around Dresden. From 1945 he mainly devoted himself to church renovation and modernization. He was the director of the reconstruction of the Dresden Kreuzkirche and was involved in the renovation and restoration of the Leipzig Thomaskirche and the Wartburg . In 1956 he developed a usage plan for the Dresden Sophienkirche , which was threatened with demolition , but was not implemented. New church buildings are the Kreuzkapelle in Mauersberg and the church in Neuendorf near Cottbus, in whose construction he played a major role.
