Fritz Winterhoff (born November 9, 1897 in Haspe ; † September 25, 1946 in Bad Nauheim ) was the operator of the "Thyssen tube works" in Mülheim and general director of Deutsche Röhrenwerke AG.

Life

In the twenties Winterhoff was an employee of the Thyssen machine works in Mülheim and the Thyssen steel and rolling mills, in 1938 he headed the hot and cold rolling mill in Dinslaken and, from January 1939, the Thyssen pipe mill. In 1944 he became general director of Deutsche Röhrenwerke (DRW) AG and was responsible for all of the operating company's German tube factories. Winterhoff was a member of the NSDAP , but held no party office. In May 1945 Winterhoff was arrested by the American military authorities and placed in an internment camp.

Abuse of Forced Laborers

As early as November 1941, Winterhoff advocated the expansion of the "Russian deployment" - the deployment of Soviet prisoners of war for his works; In the summer of 1942, the Zehntweglager in Duisburg, the largest labor camp for foreign workers in Duisburg, was set up in his department . Five Soviet prisoners of war were hanged there in September 1944 . Although the supervisor responsible for this was dismissed by Winterhoff in September of the same year, Winterhoff had previously given the camp management a free hand. Winterhoff was interned by the Allies because of these executions and other abuse by the camp administration; before a possible trial, Winterhoff died in November 1946 while imprisoned in a camp hospital.
