Fritz von Westerman

Fritz von Westerman (born June 1, 1921 in Tübingen ; † August 20, 2007 in Rheinbach ) was a German army officer, most recently in the rank of major general .

Life

Westerman came from a Baltic German aristocratic family who moved to Germany after the First World War. He entered the Wehrmacht as an officer candidate in 1939 and received several awards. He returned from the war as captain of the reserve. From the summer semester of 1946 he studied physics at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen , where he became a member of the Tübingen fraternity Derendingia . He finished his studies with a degree in physics.

In 1956 he joined the Bundeswehr . In 1976 Westerman became division commander of the 2nd Jäger Division of the German Armed Forces . Westerman was seen in 1978 as a Bundeswehr general in an episode of the documentary Germany in the fall . In 1982 he retired and was committed to the social reintegration of prisoners, such as his wife Ingeborg, who died in 2019 and who has been doing this voluntary activity since 1974. In 2001 they received the sponsorship award for volunteering in the city of Rheinbach.
