Carl-Helmuth Lichel (born August 21, 1932 in Zwickau ) is a German officer ( retired major general ).

Origin, studies and family

Lichel is the son of General of the Infantry Walter Lichel (1885–1969).

Lichel studied business administration from 1953 to 1958 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the Free University of Berlin and the University of Hamburg . He graduated in 1958 with a degree in business administration .

Military background

Promotions

In 1959 he joined the Panzer Grenadier Battalion 122 in Amberg as an officer candidate . In 1960 he attended Army Officer School III in Munich and then the Infantry School and the Armored Troop School . 1961/62 he was platoon leader in the Panzergrenadierlehrbataillon 92 in Munster. In 1962 he became S1 and in 1963 company commander .

From 1965 to 1967 he completed the 8th general staff course (H) at the command academy of the Bundeswehr (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. In 1967 he became G4 of the 6th Panzer Grenadier Division in Neumünster. From 1969 to 1971 he was assistant in the command staff of the Army (Fü H VI 2) in Bonn. Afterwards he was a general staff officer for special use with the deputy inspector of the army and chief of staff. In 1972 he became commander of the 322 Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Schwanewede. 1973/74 he was assistant officer P II 2 in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg). In 1974 he became a consultant in the planning staff of the Federal Minister of Defense . In 1975 he became head of department Fü HI 6. 1978/69 he was commander of Panzergrenadierbrigade 2 in Braunschweig. He then attended the Royal College of Defense Studies (RCDS) in London.

From 1981 to 1983 he was Department Head II and General Training in the Army in the Army Office in Cologne. In 1983 he became Head of Staff Department Fü H 1. From 1984 to 1987 he was commander of the 2nd Panzer Grenadier Division in Kassel. In 1987 he became Head of Department V and General Combat Troops in the Army Office in Cologne. In 1990 he retired.

Others

From 1991 to 2002 he was Managing Director of the Clausewitz Society .

In 1992 he became president of the German Hunter Association
