Amniotic fluid replenishment

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A amnioinfusion (Amnion infusion ) is an invasive procedure in the Pränatalmedizin for treating a strong Oligohydramnions in pregnancy .

If the amniotic fluid index drops significantly below the normal volume , amniotic fluid replenishment can be considered, in which the amount of amniotic fluid can be used to prevent possible complications (including clubfoot formation and the development of lung hypoplasia ) and to improve the diagnostic imaging of the unborn child in ultrasound (more amniotic fluid = better sound conduction) is raised. To do this, the amniotic sac is punctured with a hollow needle and the amniotic sac is filled with a sterile fluid through an inserted catheter . Usually this is done through a drip infusion .

This process may have to be carried out at individually determined intervals (often on a daily basis) until the end of the pregnancy ( serial anion infusion ). This depends in particular on what causes oligohydramnios and to what extent.

The opposite of amniotic fluid replenishment (amniotic infusion) is an amniotic fluid discharge puncture (amniotic drainage). It is performed in cases of severe polyhydramnios .
