The Fukuoka Dome , officially from 2005 to 2013 Fukuoka Yahoo! Japan Dome and since 2013 Fukuoka Yafuoku! Dome after the sponsor Yahoo! Japan , is a ballpark in Chūō-ku of the Japanese city of Fukuoka in the prefecture of the same name . The stadium is the home ground of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks from one of Japan's two professional baseball leagues, the Pacific League .
history
Work began on April 1, 1991. After two years, the inauguration was celebrated on April 2. The dome was the first stadium in Japan with a closable roof and offers space for 38,500 spectators. The dome roof has a diameter of approx. 210 meters. Opening or closing the three-part roof structure takes about 20 minutes. Overall, the construction cost 76 billion ¥ (around 606 million € ).

The Fukuoka Dome is mainly used for baseball games and concerts. The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks from the Pacific League have played their home games in the stadium since it opened in 1993. In addition, between 1996 and 2006, at least one game of the MLB Japan All-Star Series took place in the Dome every time the competition was held.
