Akindele Olufunke Ayotunde (born August 24, 1976 in Ikorodu , Lagos ) widely known to the public as Funke Akindele is a Nigerian film actress , screenwriter and film producer . She is best known for the sitcom Jenifa's Diary, which she produced and written . Akindele appears in English-language and Yorubian films.

Early years

Akindele was born in 1976 as the second of a total of four siblings (two sisters and one brother) to a doctor and a school principal . After school, Akindele studied mass communication in Ogun and law at the University of Lagos . Ultimately, despite successfully completing both courses, Akindele decided to pursue a career in film and television.

Career

Akindele got her first acting role in 1997 in the film Unclad Wire , where she acted a waitress. The big breakthrough came a year later in the Nigerian sitcom I Need To Know , where she played Bisi, a highly intelligent student. The sitcom ran over four seasons from 1998 to 2001. Since then she has also worked in many feature films such as Okun Ife Yi (2007), Jenifa (2009), Maami (2011), Jenifa 2 (2012), Jenifa 3: The Return (2013) and Pains of Rebecca (2014). The film Jenifa she conceived and its sequels were so successful that she not only received the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress ; The success also led to a spin-off series Jenifa's Diary followed in 2015 , which is now in its eighth season.

Private life

Akindele was married to Kehinde Almaroof Oyedele from 2012 to 2013. The real estate agent Oyedele was described as Playboy with many illegitimate children. After the divorce, Akindele married the Nigerian rapper Abdul Rasheed Bello , known by the pen name JJC, in London in 2016 .
