occupation

Funny Man is a horror comedy directed by Simon Sprackling and produced in Great Britain in 1994 for a budget of approximately one million pounds sterling . The film was originally conceived as a serious horror film and was partially shot as such. Since Tim James developed his character massively during production, Sprackling ignored the script as the filming continued. Large parts of the film that is ultimately completed are improvised.

According to Sprackling's production notes (which were also included with the film's British LaserDisc), he and other key figures in the production were repeatedly under the influence of drugs during filming.

action

The music producer Max Taylor wins an old castle from Callum Chance ( Christopher Lee ) while playing cards, into which he and his family move. In the castle, Taylor accidentally frees the Funny Man, a murderous Harlequin who gradually kills Taylor's family.

  • Fernsehen.ch: "Simon Sprackling, who is responsible for the direction and script, made a furious directorial debut with 'Funny Man'."

Awards

Simon Sprackling was nominated in 1995 for the “International Fantasy Film Award” of the “Festival Internacional de Cinema do Porto”.
