Gérald de Palmas
Gérald de Palmas (born October 14, 1967 in Saint-Denis in the overseas department of Réunion ; real name Gérald Gardrinier), known as De Palmas , is a French singer and composer .
Life and musical career
Gérald de Palmas spent the first ten years of his life on Réunion before his parents moved to France in 1977 and settled in Aix-en-Provence . De Palmas learned to play the guitar and bass while still at school . After breaking off his school career, he joined the group Les Valentins , with whom he released two singles as Les Max Valentins . Dissatisfied with the lack of national success, de Palmas finally left the band and moved to Paris, where he initially worked as a studio musician. His debut album La Dernière Année , released in 1994, and the single Sur la route brought him considerable success, so that in 1995 he was named best male newcomer. But he landed a flop with his second album Les lois de la nature , released in 1997 .
As a result of the failure of his second album, de Palmas withdrew from the public, gave only a few concerts and wrote only a few new songs. His contact with Jean-Jacques Goldman , with whom he wrote the song J'en rêve encore , helped de Palmas to compose 10 more pieces for his new album Marcher dans le sable , which was released in 2000. Another collaboration with the French artist Maxime Le Forestier under the title Tomber and the album became big hits in France, followed by an extensive tour. Tomber became an international hit in an English cover version of Celine Dion as Ten days . De Palmas wrote a few pieces for the Canadian singer and for Johnny Hallyday , whose play Marie , which originated from de Palmas, was a big hit in France. In 2002, Gérald de Palmas was named the best male singer. In the same year a live album or a live DVD for the successful tour was released.
The follow-up album Un homme sans racines was released in 2004. Disputes with his record company subsequently prevented the release of the fifth album Sortir , which was only released in 2009. Except for the duet Pandora's box with Eagle-Eye Cherry , de Palmas composed and recorded all the songs on the album himself. His first best-of compilation appeared in 2011, the second page of which contains some rare pieces, alternative and live versions. The sixth album, which was released in 2013 and is simply titled "De Palmas", contains a large number of songs with English lyrics for the first time. In March 2016 his new album La beauté du geste was released , which again only contains French-language songs. Most of the songs were written in his homeland on La Réunion, the album was recorded mostly live in a Paris studio within two months.
Gérald de Palmas is married and has two children.
