Gérard Schivardi (born April 17, 1950 in Narbonne ) is a French politician . The bricklayer and non-party mayor of the south-west French village of Mailhac , he ran in the 2007 French presidential election as one of twelve candidates. He received 123,540 votes, which made up 0.34 percent. Thus he achieved the worst result of all presidential candidates.

Political activity

Schivardi was from 1973 to 1988 chairman of the masons' union in the Aude department and joined the Parti socialiste (PS) in 1975 , to which he was a member until 2003. In 1989 he became municipal representative and in 2001 mayor of Mailhac. Since 2003 he has represented the Canton Ginestas in the General Council of the Aude department. He is the candidate of a group of mayors belonging to different political parties. In his election he is supported by the Trotskyist labor party “ Parti des travailleurs ”. As a founding member of the Comité national pour la reconquête des services publics et de la Démocratie (National Committee for the Recovery of Services to the Public and Democracy), he fights for the small municipalities that, in his opinion, do not receive any support from the state. His catchphrase “candidat par les maires”, in other words “candidate for mayors”, was forbidden by a court of law, because not all French mayors were in favor of his election. From then on he was only allowed to call himself “candidat par des maires”, ie “candidate for mayors”. Part of his program is the break with the European Union .

According to the preliminary official final result, it received 123,540 votes (0.34%).
