Gökay Sofuoglu , Turkish spelling: Gökay Sofuoğlu (born March 21, 1962 in Kayseri , Turkey ), is a German association official. Since May 2014 he has been federal chairman of the Turkish community in Germany and state chairman of the Turkish community in Baden-Württemberg .

Life

Sofuoğlu graduated from high school in his hometown Kayseri and emigrated to Germany in 1980. He studied social pedagogy and later worked as a social pedagogue in Kornwestheim and Stuttgart .

He is a member of the SPD , Verdi , the Friends of Nature , the AWO , TEMA , the German-Turkish Forum , the German-Turkish Society and the DKSM .

Sofuoğlu welcomes the idea of ​​a kind of church tax for Muslims . In response to the discussion of the debate on a guiding culture initiated by Federal Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière , Sofuoglu said in Berlin in June 2017: "We don't need a guiding culture, we need an immigration and participation law."
