Göran Waxberg
Göran Waxberg (born May 23, 1919 in Kolbäck ; † January 17, 2007 in Höganäs ) was a Swedish athlete . At the European Championships in 1946 he won the bronze medal in the decathlon .
Waxberg won the Swedish championship title in the decathlon from 1942 to 1945 and in the pentathlon from 1943 to 1945. In 1943 he was world best in the decathlon with 7008 points (6594 points according to today's rating). In 1944 he set a Swedish pentathlon record with 3574 points (3651 points according to today's rating), which was only exceeded in 1971.
The first European championships after the Second World War took place in Oslo from 22 to 25 August 1946 . The Swedes, who had been spared from the war, dominated. In the decathlon, however, the Norwegian Godtfred Holmvang won with 6987 points ahead of Sergei Kuznetsov from the Soviet Union with 6930 points, Göran Waxberg came third with 6661 points (6504 points according to today's rating) ahead of the Swiss Armin Scheurer with 6655 points.
With the completion of his veterinary studies in Stockholm Waxberg also ended his active sporting career, he must first of all with its own clinic independently made and later city veterinary of Helsingborg was.
