Helmut Günter Baumann (born August 1, 1947 in Annaberg-Buchholz ) is a former German politician ( CDU ) and was chairman of the working group on petitions of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group from 2005 to 2017 .

Live and act

After completing his vocational training with a high school diploma in 1967, Baumann studied at the Technical University of Dresden , which he completed in 1971 with a degree in textile technology. He then worked in the textile industry until 1990, most recently as plant manager in a trimmings company . Baumann is Protestant, married and has two children.

Baumann joined the GDR CDU in 1972 , was mayor of the city of Jöhstadt from 1990 to 1998 and has been a member of the district council of the Annaberg district since 1990 .

MP

From 1998 to 2017 he was a member of the German Bundestag and from November 2005 chaired the working group on petitions of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group as well as a member of the petitions committee and the interior committee . Baumann moved into the Bundestag as directly elected member of the constituencies Annaberg - Stollberg - Zschopau (1998), Annaberg - Aue-Schwarzenberg (2002 and 2005) and Erzgebirgskreis I (2009 and 2013) . In the 2013 federal election he received 50.2% of the first votes . In the 18th Bundestag was Baumann Regular member of the Interior Committee.

He no longer stood for the Bundestag in the 2017 federal election.

Honors

At the suggestion of his parliamentary group, Baumann was awarded the Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his years of extraordinary commitment in various areas on December 15, 2010 , which aroused public criticism because of the flat-rate award practice based on the proportional representation procedure to members of the Bundestag and the non-public award.
