Günter Deckert (born September 14, 1950 in Ehrenfriedersdorf ; † November 24, 2005 ) was a German Nordic combined athlete .

Deckert was considered one of the world's best Nordic combined athletes in the first half of the 1970s . He celebrated his first international success in 1970 when he won the title at the Nordic Junior European Championship in Gosau . Two years later he traveled to the Olympic Games in Sapporo as a favorite . A fall while ski jumping ended all hopes for a medal. Deckert finished ninth in the end.

In 1974 he had the greatest success of his career at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun . Behind his compatriot Ulrich Wehling , he won the silver medal in the Nordic combined. In the same year he achieved second place behind Bernd Zimmermann at the GDR state championships. In 1976 Deckert competed again at the Olympic Games in Innsbruck and was 13.

After his active career, he worked as a youth coach. Most recently he lived in seclusion in Ehrenfriedersdorf . Günter Deckert died on November 24, 2005 at the age of 55.
