Ernst Günter Engelhard (born January 19, 1937 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German features journalist and publicist .

Life

Engelhard was born the son of master carpenter Emil Engelhard and his wife Hedwig (née Schneider). After attending the humanistic Heinrich-von-Gagern-Gymnasium in Frankfurt, he volunteered at the Franconian Volksblatt (today Main-Post ) in Würzburg. From 1959 Engelhard worked as an editor in the cultural field of various newspapers, including for the Weser-Kurier in Bremen and Christ und Welt in Stuttgart. He is considered an early journalistic companion of Joseph Beuys .

In 1970 Engelhard became head of the arts section of the Frankfurter Rundschau , which he left in 1972 to become chief dramaturge under Ulrich Brecht's directorship at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . In 1973 he returned to Christ and the world . In 1975 he received the Theodor Wolff Prize as a member of the editorial team of the Deutsche Zeitung - Christ und Welt .

Engelhard also observed the European art and theater scene for numerous newspapers and magazines. He has been writing articles for Epoca and the Swiss cultural magazine Du since the late 1960s . This was followed by reports and essays in the business magazine Capital , Westdeutscher Rundfunk and regular collaboration in the cultural section of the Swiss weekly newspaper Die Weltwoche in the 1980s. Engelhard has been the author of the art magazine art since the first issue in 1979 .

Engelhard lives and writes in Berlin and southern France. He is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).
