Günter Freudenberg

Günter Freudenberg (born September 16, 1923 in Mannheim ; † December 29, 2000 in Berlin ) was a German philosopher and university professor. He was a professor of philosophy at the University of Osnabrück and a founder.

Life

Günter Freudenberg taught and researched from 1966 to 1988, initially at the Osnabrück University of Education - the Adolf Reichwein University - and then at the University of Osnabrück as a professor of philosophy. As deputy to the founding rector Manfred Horstmann and as the founding dean of the newly formed Faculty of Culture and Geosciences, he contributed to the integration of the former university into the university founded in 1973. Freudenberg's scientific work includes works on development policy, particularly on Korea, as well as works on peace research.

Günter Freudenberg was friends with the composer Yun Isang . After Isang Yun was kidnapped by the Korean secret service KCIA in 1967, he became involved in the Korea coordination group of the Evangelical Church in Germany and was a co-founder of the Korea Committee in Osnabrück. Günter Freudenberg was chairman of the Korea Committee and its successor organization Korea Association from 1977 to 1997 , of which he was honorary chairman until his death.

He was the founder and benefactor of the Asia House Foundation . Until his death he was honorary chairman of the foundation.
