Günter Grossmann

Günter Großmann (born July 16, 1925 in Petershagen ; † January 9, 1998 ) was a German marine engineering engineer.

Günter Großmann was born on July 16, 1925 in Petershagen / Weser. After an interruption due to the war, he finished his studies in marine engineering at the Technical University of Danzig in 1943 at the Technical University of Braunschweig with a diploma in mechanical engineering.

He began as a designer at Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK) in Kiel-Friedrichsort, in 1953 he moved to the chair for mechanics at the Technical University of Hanover , initially held by Otto Flachsbart (1898–1957) and then by Eduard Pestel . He later became a senior engineer and after receiving his doctorate a Dr.-Ing. (1957) Großmann switched to the Howaldtswerke in Kiel .

In 1969 Großmann was appointed full professor for ship power plants at the Technical University of Berlin . Here he developed a lively scientific activity, working on the system design of ship propulsion systems, storage and processing of heavy fuel oil and inerting of large tankers. The profitability of the ship's operation has been studied in many ways. In addition, he put great effort into academic teaching and worked as a visiting professor in the USA and Indonesia. Well beyond the age of 65 until his death in 1998, Großmann was active in science and made a significant contribution to maintaining ship technology at the Technical University of Berlin. He is buried in the Dahlem forest cemetery.

Großmann found his scientific and technical home in the Shipbuilding Society , where he headed the specialist committee “Ship Engines” from 1986 to 1992. For this, but also for his passionate lectures and discussions, he received the silver medal from the STG in 1990.
