Günter Hoffmann (table tennis player)

Günter Hoffmann (* around 1932) is a former German table tennis player . He took part in two world championships for Saarland.

Career

Hoffmann was one of the best table tennis players in Saarland in the 1950s. He played since 1947 at the TTC Wemmetsweiler club. In 1950 and 1951 he was Saarland Champion of the youth in singles and doubles. In the men's category, he won doubles with Michael Weber in 1949, 1952 and 1954. In 1957 he rose with the men's team of the TTC Wemmetsweiler in the Oberliga Südwest - at that time the highest German division.

He represented Saarland twice at world championships: 1954 in London and 1955 in Utrecht. He didn't come close to medal ranks. In 1954 he did not survive the individual qualifying round. In doubles with Ossi Michel he won against Ronald Hook / Michael Fiedler (England / USA) and Vahaken Ohannesian / Spiro Abourjeili (Lebanon) and then lost to Hugo Urchetti / Georges Wassmer (Switzerland). In 1955 he failed in the individual after a bye to Giuseppe Molina (Italy). In the double competition he prevailed with Hans Schommer after a bye against Olle Gustner / Kjell Wilhelmsson (Sweden), but not against the Hungarians József Kóczián / Ferenc Sidó . The mixed with Eva Graf was eliminated by Heinz Schneider / Hannelore Giessler .

Hoffmann was nominated for international matches against Luxembourg, Belgium, India, Vietnam, England and France. He also took part in the international championships in France and Belgium.

Today (2010) Günter Hoffmann lives in Saarland Quierschied .
