Ossi Michel

Oskar "Ossi" Michel (born July 13, 1927 in Beckingen ; † January 2, 2016 there ) was a German table tennis player . He took part in world championships twice for Saarland and played 25 international matches in the Saarland national team.

After the Second World War , Saarland provided its own national team. It took part in the TT World Championships in London in 1954 and in Utrecht in 1955 . Ossi Michel was nominated for both World Championships.

With the club TTC Beckingen (formerly TV Beckingen), to which he belonged from 1946 until his old age, he was Saarland Champion five times in a row from 1949 to 1953. The club played in the Oberliga , which was the highest German division at the time. At the Saarland Championships in 1956, 1957 and 1958 he won the singles title, in doubles he was first in 1954 (with Werner Weiß ) and 1956 (with Edmund Maurer). Overall, he was nominated for several international matches, 1949 against France and Luxembourg, 1951 against India, 1953 against England, Yugoslavia and Hungary, 1956 against Wales and 1958 against Luxembourg.

At the German Senior Championships 2007 in Gütersloh, he reached the final in the over 80 age group.

Ossi Michel was a surveyor by profession. He was married.
