Giandomenico Mesto (born May 25, 1982 in Monopoli ( BA )) is an Italian soccer player who was most recently under contract with Panathinaikos Athens .

Career

society

Mesto played the last years of his youth at Reggina Calcio and was promoted to the professional squad of the then second division team in 1998. After he came to a use in the promotion season 1998/99, he was not considered in the following season. Therefore, he was awarded in the seasons 2000/01 and 2001/02 respectively. Back at Reggina, he managed until the 2004/05 season to earn a regular place at Reggina in defensive midfield.

In 2007, Udinese Calcio paid Reggina € 4.5 million to acquire 50% of Mesto's transfer rights. Mesto also played for the Udine team in the 2007/08 season.

National team

Mesto was part of the Italian U-21 national team, which won the 2004 U21 European Championship under Claudio Gentile in Germany . That same year he was also in the squad of the Italian Olympic team at the Summer Games in Athens the bronze medal won. Mesto came to a total of three short assignments.

On June 9, 2005, under coach Marcello Lippi , he made his debut for Italy's senior team against Serbia and Montenegro when he came on for Mauro Esposito in the 35th minute . Mesto became the first Reggina player to appear in an A international match for Italy.
