Günter Körber (born January 9, 1922 in Berlin ; † July 23, 1990 in Brensbach ) was a German builder of historical woodwind instruments .

Life

Raised in Berlin, he became a military musician during the Second World War , and later a professional woodwind and entertainment musician . In 1958 he met Otto Steinkopf , for whom he started building historical woodwind instruments according to his plans and instructions. When he took over the management of the studio for renaissance instruments at Moeck in Celle in 1964 , Körber continued the Berlin workshop and moved it to Brensbach in the Odenwald in 1980 .

Services

Körber built Renaissance instruments in all vocal works: crumhorns , Kortholte , rauschpfeife , flutes , Pomerania , shawms , dulcians (including Quartbassdulziane) Rankette , tines and Dudeys ; In addition, baroque instruments: transverse flutes , baroque oboes , baroque bassoons and chalumeaux . - As a beginner's instrument he developed "history modeled" the Hirtenschalmei, a wind instrument capsule with a cylindrical bore and a conical bell .

His workshop had a comparably high productivity, and his catalog at times included over fifty different instruments. His contacts in Great Britain and the USA stimulated the early music movement and the construction of historical woodwind instruments there.

Award

Shortly before his death, Körber was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit with ribbon.
