from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Günter Krauthausen (born June 15, 1954 ) is a German math teacher . Since 1996 he has been a professor at the University of Hamburg .

Career

After studying to be a primary school teacher (subjects: mathematics, German and sport) in Aachen , Krauthausen successfully passed the two state exams in Aachen in 1977 and in Düsseldorf in 1979 . He then worked as a primary school teacher in Düsseldorf for a total of eleven years and, in parallel with his school service, for ten years as a specialist seminar leader for mathematics at the study seminar for the primary level in Düsseldorf. From 1988 to 1990, Krauthausen was the state advisor to the Ministry of Culture in North Rhine-Westphalia for new technologies in elementary schools at the Central Advisory Center for New Technologies at the State Institute for Schools and Further Education in Soest .

As part of the math 2000 research project by the initiators Erich Wittmann and Gerhard N. Müller, Krauthausen was seconded to the University of Dortmund from 1990 to 1994 , where he received his doctorate in 1994. After a further two years at the Düsseldorf study seminar, the University of Hamburg appointed him to a professor for mathematics didactics with a focus on mathematical beginners lessons, which he currently continues to hold.

Krauthausen is a member of the Society for Didactics of Mathematics (GDM) and was a member of the German Center for Teacher Education Mathematics (DZLM). In addition, he was a member of the GDM Advisory Board from 2004 to 2007. From 2008 to 2009 he was a member of the advisory committee of the Journal für Mathematik-Didaktik (JMD), an international scientific journal published by the GDM. In addition, Krauthausen was a member of the jury for the GDM Young Researchers Promotion Award in 2008 .

Research priorities

Günter Krauthausen researches, among other things, digital media and their use in mathematics lessons for primary schools. From this, he developed some software for learning mathematics in elementary school age, such as the software flash calculation for mental arithmetic training (1997/98) and number researcher with ten research tasks for the task format number walls . From 2009 to 2013, together with other math didactics, he further developed the SINUS program for use in primary school lessons.

In 2008, Krauthausen initiated the LieZah project as part of the head and number ideas competition of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research , in which the favorite numbers of around 3700 primary school children in Hamburg were asked.

Furthermore, he deals with conceptual questions of teacher training. Together with the professor for mathematics didactics at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Petra Scherer, he published the book Introduction to Mathematics Didactics in 2000 . This is aimed primarily at primary level teacher training students. It enjoys high acceptance at many universities and other institutes for teacher training in Germany , Austria and Switzerland and is therefore widely used as a standard work on mathematics didactics. The fourth edition was published in 2018 without Scherer's participation under the title Introduction to Mathematics Didactics - Primary School .
