Günter Stahnke

Günter Stahnke (born October 10, 1928 in Międzyzdroje ; † November 11, 2018 ) was a German theater, film and television director who also wrote scripts and worked as an actor.

life and work

The best-known is Stahnke's 1965 DEFA film Spring Needs Time , which was banned shortly after its premiere on November 26, 1965. After that he turned mainly to the television direction of cheerful entertainment with over 100 productions.

But Stahnke had problems with censorship before too. To mark the 10th anniversary of the German TV Broadcasting Corporation (DFF) in December 1962, he had staged a 36-minute television film “ Monologue for a Taxi Driver ” based on a book by Günter Kunert , which was to be broadcast as part of an anniversary festival week, but had been banned beforehand has been; this little film only had its world premiere on April 26, 1990. His short TV film "Fetzers Flucht" - another collaboration with Kunert - was also criticized, but it was first broadcast on December 20, 1962 in the DFF.

Günter Stahnke was married to the actress Helga Piur until his death . The family lived in Brandenburg, near the Scharmützelsee . From his first marriage to the actress Doris Abeßer he had a son (* 1963).
