Günter Werner

Günter Werner (born June 20, 1931 in Weischlitz ; † August 1, 1998 ) was a German military medic . He was head of the Bad Saarow Military Medical Academy in the GDR .

Life

The son of a worker completed an apprenticeship as an agricultural assistant from 1945 to 1949 after attending school with a high school diploma. From 1949 to 1951 he was a student at a workers and farmers faculty (ABF). In 1951 he became a member of the SED . From 1951 to 1955 he was a medical student in the Soviet Union . He then joined the Kasernierte Volkspolizei (KVP) on July 1, 1955 . From 1955 to 1957 he was a student and officer auditor at the Military Medical Section (MMS) Greifswald . From 1956 a member of the National People's Army (NVA), he was compulsory assistant from 1957 to 1958 and trainee specialist at MMS from 1958 to 1959. From 1959 to 1963 he served as a ward physician and from 1963 to 1968 as senior physician in the central hospital of the NVA in Bad Saarow . After studying at the Military Medical Academy in the USSR in 1968/69, he acted as deputy head of clinical work from 1969 to 1972 and as head of the medical clinic of the central hospital from 1972 to 1988. On November 5, 1971, he was elected chairman of the section when the Internal Military Medicine section of the Society for Military Medicine of the GDR was founded. He held this position until 1990.

On October 5, 1978, he was appointed major general by the chairman of the GDR's National Defense Council , Erich Honecker . From 1987 to 1990 he was a member of the Presidium of the Society for Military Medicine of the GDR. From November 30, 1988 to 1990, he succeeded Hans Rudolf Gestewitz as head of the NVA's Military Medical Academy. On September 30, 1990, he was released from military service.

After the reunification in the GDR, Werner was chief physician in the internal medicine department at Humaine Klinikum Bad Saarow, the successor to the Military Medical Academy.
