Günter Westerhoff

Günter Westerhoff (born March 26, 1923 in Essen , † July 15, 2015 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a German writer .

Life

Günter Westerhoff came from a family of craftsmen. After elementary school he completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith and worked as a repair fitter on a colliery in Mülheim an der Ruhr , he was also a member of the mine rescue service . From 1942 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier in the Wehrmacht and was wounded several times. From 1946 he returned to his old job. Most recently he lived as a pensioner in the Mausegatt colliery . In addition to his writing activities, Westerhoff, who played the bandoneon , was also active as a musician.

Günter Westerhoff wrote poems and prose works in which he described the world of industrial workers .

From 1961 to 1967 Günter Westerhoff was a member of "Gruppe 61" . In 1980 he received the Ruhr Prize for Art and Science from the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr.
