Günther Anton Moosbrugger

Günther Anton Moosbrugger (born February 5, 1899 in Hard ; † August 5, 1979 in Dornbirn ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Moosbrugger was mayor of the city of Dornbirn in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg from 1945 to 1965 . With a term of office of 20 years he is the second longest incumbent mayor in the history of Dornbirn .

Günther Anton Moosbrugger was born on February 5, 1899 in the Vorarlberg Lake Constance municipality of Hard as the son of the post office manager Josef Anton Moosbrugger. His father died just a few years after his birth, which put the Moosbrugger family in serious financial distress, as all six children were still in education at that time. Günther Anton Moosbrugger financed his law studies at the University of Innsbruck by means of a scholarship, among other things. Since 1918 he was a member of the Catholic student union AV Austria Innsbruck . In 1923 he received his doctorate in law , after which he opened his own law firm in Dornbirn in 1932.

After the liberation of Austria by the Allies after the Second World War, the Dornbirn parties proposed Günther Anton Moosbrugger, returning from the war, to the French occupation authorities as the new mayor of the city of Dornbirn. After the occupation authorities had appointed him mayor on May 18, 1945, Moosbrugger began a 20-year term of office as mayor of Dornbirn, during which he was confirmed in office several times in municipal council and mayor elections. From 1948 to 1952 and from 1956 to 1960 and 1964 to 1966 he was also President of the Vorarlberg Association of Municipalities .

During his tenure as mayor, in 1961 he was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria . In 1965, Karl Bohle replaced Moosbrugger as the top candidate of the ÖVP in the municipal council and mayoral elections that took place in the same year. Günther Anton Moosbrugger resigned from the mayor's office in 1965. In 1975 he was finally made an honorary citizen of the city of Dornbirn. Günther Anton Moosbrugger died on August 5, 1979 at the age of 80 in his hometown of Dornbirn.
