Günther Horzetzky (born August 3, 1951 in Hamburg ) is a German political official . From 2010 to 2017 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life and work

After primary school in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel and Bonn-Bad Godesberg , Horzetzky attended the Nikolaus-Cusanus-Gymnasium in Bonn-Bad Godesberg until 1971. He then studied agricultural science, also in Bonn, and graduated in 1976 as a Dipl.-Ing. agr. from. In the following years he was employed as a research assistant at the Bonn Chair for Economic Sociology and received his doctorate in 1979. agr.

From 1980 Horzetzky worked for the horticulture, agriculture and forestry union (GGLF). He got on as office manager of the union chairman and in 1983 became department head and board secretary. From 1989 he headed the parliamentary liaison office of the DGB federal executive committee and in 1991 rose to the position of federal executive secretary in the board area of ​​the chairman. He worked there until 2000.

From 2001 to 2002 Horzetzky was social affairs officer at the German Embassy in Washington, DC. In November 2002 he returned and became head of department in the Federal Chancellery . In 2006 he moved to the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) as head of the policy department , where he was promoted to State Secretary in 2008.

From October 2008 to November 2009 Horzetzky was a permanent state secretary in the BMAS led by Olaf Scholz ( SPD ). After the change of government in autumn 2009 following the federal election in 2009, he was put into temporary retirement.

On July 16, 2010 he was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Building, Housing and Transport of North Rhine-Westphalia, led by Harry Voigtsberger (SPD). Since June 21, 2012 he has been State Secretary in the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Industry, SMEs and Crafts, led by Garrelt Duin (SPD). He left office at the end of June 2017.

On April 17, 2015 Horzetzky was awarded the Badge of Honor of the West German Chamber of Crafts .
