Günther Novak (born May 30, 1955 in Bad Gastein ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and managing director. He has been a member of the Federal Council since 2013 .

education and profession

Novak attended primary school in Mallnitz from 1961 to 1965 and then continued his education from 1965 to 1969 at the secondary school in Spittal an der Drau . He then completed the polytechnical course from 1969 to 1970 and then learned the trade of retail salesman at the Manhardt sports store in Spittal an der Drau between 1970 and 1973. Most recently, from 1993 to 1995, he completed a 5-semester university course in tourism management at the University of Klagenfurt, where he graduated as an academic tourism manager.

Between 1973 and 1974, Novak worked professionally to set up the sports shop "Sporthütte Gratzer" in Hanover , after which he worked from 1974 to 1977 as the department manager for purchasing and sales at the Manhardt sports shop in Spittal an der Drau. At the same time he was a buyer for Zentrasport Austria for tennis and mountain sports. In 1977 he changed to Mallnitzer Liftanlagen und Tourismus GmbH as tourism director and managing director and worked there until 1996. After that, he became managing director of the Strafinger tourism management in Pörtschach / Landskron in 1996, where he worked on tourist marketing plans and implemented specialized offers in the areas of wellness, Cross-country skiing, families, cycling, fishing and golf was entrusted. In addition, he was managing director of these offer groups consisting of a total of 350 companies and 30 tourism regions. From 2011 to 2013 he was managing director of travel agency, Austria and Carinthia bike tours.

Politics and functions

Novak joined the SPÖ at a young age and was Vice Mayor of Mallnitz for two over two periods. Novak has been the mayor of this municipality since 2009. He is also a member and treasurer of the district party committee and has been active within the party since 1996 as the local party chairman of the SPÖ Mallnitz.

Private

Novak is married and has one daughter. He is a member of the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service at the Carinthia regional organization (Mallnitz branch) and names football, running, biking, mountaineering, ski touring and golf as hobbies.
