Günther Schwarz (resistance fighter)

Günther Schwarz (born August 26, 1928 in Cologne ; † November 10, 1944 there ) was a German resistance fighter against National Socialism from the Ehrenfeld group and its youngest member.

Günther Schwarz began an apprenticeship as a locksmith after attending primary school . In the late summer of 1944 in Cologne , which had already been damaged by air raids , he and his friend Barthel Schink found access to Hans Steinbrück , an escaped concentration camp inmate who had found shelter with his girlfriend in a basement apartment. Schwarz was one of the more than one hundred people (including his brother Wolfgang Schwarz ) who, as escaped forced laborers , Wehrmacht deserters , Jews , political resistance fighters and criminals, belonged to the "Ehrenfeld group" who helped the persecuted and hid Jews. Even weapons and explosives robbed and pitched one of them to be able to use this in the "final battle" against important military installations. After the Gestapo learned that the Jews were hiding at Cilly S., they were arrested. Steinbrück undertook a liberation campaign with young people, including Günther Schwarz. There was a shootout with the police and Gestapo, in which a local NSDAP leader, police officers and bystanders were shot.

On October 10, 1944, Schwarz was one of 64 arrested by the group. 13 of them were without following severe ill-treatment on 10 November 1944 court ruling public in Hüttenstraße hanged . 16-year-old Schwarz was the youngest of the murdered.
