Gabriel Gruber
Gabriel Gruber (* 6. May 1740 in Vienna , † March 26 . Jul / 7. April 1805 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was Superior General of the Jesuits in Russia .
Life
Gabriel Gruber joined the Society of Jesus in 1755 . From 1772 to 1786 he taught mechanics and hydraulics in Laibach . From 1786 he taught at the Jesuit college in Polock . When the order general Franciscus Kareu died on July 30, 1802, the general assembly elected Gruber as its new general on October 10 of the same year.
Gabriel Gruber died in Saint Petersburg in 1805.
Appreciation
The Gruber Canal (Gruberjev Prekop) in Ljubljana is named after him.
