Gabriel Ricardo Quadri de la Torre (born August 4, 1954 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican politician (PANAL), liberal environmentalist and investor. He was the official candidate of his Nueva Alianzia (PANAL) party in the 2012 presidential election .

Life

Gabriel Quadri received a Masters in Civil Engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana and a Masters in Economics from the University of Texas in 1981 . Quadri published several books, worked in the media business and in the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales , the Ministry of Environment of Mexico and the Banco de México . He is also the founder of an environmental protection organization.

2012 presidential election

In the 2012 presidential elections in Mexico , Quadri de la Torre ran as the official candidate of his Nueva Alianzia (PANAL) party . By registering as a candidate, the PANAL broke a collation with the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) and the Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM). Afterwards, an alliance was up for discussion for some candidates of the Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), but this idea was rejected by Josefina Vázquez Mota , who was later elected as the official candidate . At the beginning of the election campaign, Quadri only achieved 0.06% in polls and was not noticed by the media, which only spoke of three candidates until the television debate on May 7th . During the debate, however, he was able to convince and his polls shot in some cases to over 10%. In the election on July 1, 2012 Quadri reached fourth and thus last place among the registered candidates and about 1.13 million votes, which corresponds to 2.3%.
