Gabriele Müller-Oberhäuser

Gabriele Müller-Oberhäuser (born January 9, 1950 ) is a German book scholar .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1969, she studied in Cologne (English, sociology , philosophy ) from 1969 to 1977 (scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation ). After the first state examination in 1975 for the teaching post at grammar school (English studies / sociology), she completed the library traineeship at the University Library of Marburg and in Frankfurt am Main / second state examination from 1977 to 1979 . From 1980 to 1983 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Book Studies at the University of Mainz . After completing her doctorate in 1983 at the University of Cologne / English Department (English studies / dissertation on Geoffrey Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde), she was a university assistant at the English Department of the University of Münster ( Medieval Studies ) from 1984 to 1990 . After her habilitation in 1990 in Münster (habilitation thesis on books and reading in the English mysticism of the late Middle Ages / Venia Legendi English philology including book studies), she was a professor at the University of Münster / English seminar (medieval studies) from 1990 to 1993. From 1993 to 1998 she taught as C 3 professor at the University of Kiel : English Literature of the Middle Ages. From 1998 to 2015 she held the C 4 professorship for book studies at the University of Münster / Institute for Book Studies & Text Research.

Her main research interests are English literature and culture of the late Middle Ages, book history in England (especially the Middle Ages and early modern times), historical reader research, religion and violence and book censorship.
