Gabriele Měšťan (born December 27, 1951 in Eisenach ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). From 1998 to 2011 she was a member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Her name was Gabriele Schulz until May 2005, when she married the Czech athlete and politician Zdeněk Měšťan .

Life

Schulz graduated from high school in Eisenach in 1970 and then began studying at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , which she completed in 1974 as a graduate historian. She then taught history and Russian in Suhl. There she was also active in the FDJ and worked for the SED district leadership in Hagenow and as a financial clerk . From 1996 to 1998 she was a specialist advisor to the “Kommunalpolitischen Forum Land Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” e. V. Měšťan is non-denominational, married and has two children.

Schulz joined the SED in 1971 and remained a member after the change in 1990 to the PDS . From 1995 to 2005 she was district chairman of the PDS Südwestmecklenburg, and since November 2005 she has been its deputy chairman. Since 1996 she has been a member of the representative assembly of the consumer cooperative Hagenow eG, and she is also a member of the ver.di union . From 1998 to 2011 Měšťan was a member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Until January 12, 1999 she was the second vice-president of the state parliament. She resigned from this office because, as the second secretary of the SED district leadership in Hagenow, she had worked professionally with representatives of the Ministry for State Security. From October 2002 to September 2009 she was Parliamentary Managing Director of the PDS parliamentary group. In addition, Měšťan was the spokeswoman for the Left Party for local politics and deputy chairwoman of the parliamentary commission of inquiry "Strengthening local self-government".
