Gabriele Winter (* 1959 as Gabriele Knapp ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and was mayor of the city of Griesheim from 2011 to 2017 .

Life

Winter attended the Viktoriaschule in Darmstadt and graduated from high school there in 1978 . She then studied and became a graduate in administration. From September 1, 1981 to November 30, 1986, she worked at the District Directorate for Forests and Nature Conservation in Darmstadt. In 1986 she moved to the Hessian Ministry of Culture . In addition to her job, Winter completed a distance learning course in adult education from 1988 to 1989.

Since 1993 she has been a member of the city ​​council of Griesheim for the SPD . From 1996 to 2004 she was chairman of the local SPD association. Since November 2004 she has been chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group in the city council. On October 3, 2010, she was elected mayor of Griesheim with 57.1% of the valid votes. She took office on February 2, 2011. In 2016 she ran again for the office of mayor. When none of the candidates could achieve the necessary majority on October 9, there was a runoff election on October 30 , in which Winter was defeated by her challenger Geza Krebs-Wetzl from the CDU .

Winter is married and has a daughter. The local researcher and author Karl Knapp from Griesheim is her father.
