history

The village of Gadeland was first mentioned as Godelande on July 11, 1141 in a letter to Bishop Vizelin . The name Gadeland did not appear until the end of the 18th century. At that time it was still a purely farming village, it was only in the 20th century that it was converted into a mixed village.

In 1766 there were only 130 inhabitants in the village, in 1900 there were already 434 and in 1970 when it was incorporated into Neumünster there were 3800 inhabitants.

The city of Neumünster had been trying to incorporate it since 1921, but it was not until December 23, 1937 that the provincial government in Kiel decreed that part of the Gadeland community was to be incorporated into Neumünster by April 1, 1938. When Gadeland was to be incorporated again in 1970, a residents' assembly was convened at which most of the participants voted against it, but the government in Kiel ordered the incorporation.
