To prepare for the game, the ten sectors are laid out as desired and each player places two mines on any home planet. The research board is randomly equipped with nine basic technologies and each player's markers are placed on the corresponding research fields. In addition, each player starts with 10 points on the victory point track. The scoring tiles and round boosters are drawn at random and placed on the table. Now each player receives his starting income before the starting player starts the game. The game ends when six rounds have been completed.

Phases per round
  • income
  • Gaia phase
  • Actions
  • End of round

At the beginning of each round, all players receive their income. If a player placed a Gaia former in the previous round, this is replaced by a Gaia tile in the Gaia phase. Then the starting player begins to perform one of the eight possible actions. When he has finished his action, it is the turn of the next player in turn order. This continues until all players have passed in turn. If a player passes, he puts back his round booster and chooses a new one for the next round. Then a new round begins.

The eight possible actions are:

  • Build a mine
  • Start a Gaia project
  • Upgrade existing buildings
  • Form an alliance
  • Research progress
  • Play power or QIC actions
  • Special promotions
  • Fit

After all six rounds have been completed, a final scoring takes place depending on the final scoring tiles. The player who has the most victory points after the final scoring wins the game.
