Gaius Fonteius Capito was a Roman politician and consul of 59 AD.

Family and origin

Gaius Fonteius Capito came from a family of plebeian nobility that had existed since the 2nd century BC. Several praetors , but only at the end of the republic in 33 BC. A consul. In the 1st century of the imperial era , the family gained greater importance and provided several consuls. She was one of not very many surviving Senator families whose senatorial origins dating back to the time of the Middle Republic. According to Cicero , the family came from the Italian Tusculum .

Life and political activity

Gaius Fonteius Capito was probably the son or grandson of the consul of the same name of the year AD 12. His brother Fonteius Capito was one of the consuls of the year AD 67. He himself became ordinary consul of the year under Nero, together with Gaius Vipstanus Apronianus 59 AD
