Gaius Iulius Severus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gaius Iulius Severus (* around 90; † after 162) was a Roman politician and senator .

Life

Severus came from a Galatian royal family from Ancyra , whose descendants had received Roman citizenship and the gentile name Iulius under Augustus . His father of the same name was a suffect consul around 138 . Before his praetur, Severus was the tribune of the Legio IV Scythica and, as the emperor's candidate, quaestor and tribune of the people . At 145 he was praetor urbanus .

From 147 to 150 Severus was a legate of the Legio XXX Ulpia Victrix and probably between 151 and 154 street curator of the Via Appia . A military diploma dated March 10, 155, shows that he was full consul with Marcus Iunius Rufinus Sabinianus in 155 . The first consular office that Severus held was the Legature in Syria Palestine between 157 and 159/160. He is provincial governor for 158 by military diplomas.

Severus was a member of the Quindecimviri sacris faciundis priestly quorum .
