Gajo Petrovic
Gajo Petrović (born March 12, 1927 , Karlovac , Croatia ; † June 13, 1993 in Zagreb ) was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Zagreb .
He was the founder of the Zagreb practice group and long-time editor of the magazine Praxis and contributed to a new interpretation of Marxism , which referred in particular to the philosophical writings of the young Marx . This interpretation of Marx fit into a socialism based on workers' self-management . However, his persistently radical criticism of the dogmatic ideology of the League of Yugoslav Communists led to an open conflict, in the course of which the magazine was banned. The practice group included a. Predrag Vranicki and Mihailo Marković . There were also contacts to Erich Fromm and other humanist socialists and social critics. After his death he was buried in the Mirogoj cemetery in Zagreb .
