Nero-Film AG
The Nero-Film was a German film production company based in Berlin .
The company was founded in 1925 by the producer and director Richard Oswald and the entrepreneur Heinrich Nebenzahl as a subsidiary of Richard Oswald Produktion GmbH and Heinrich Nebenzahl & Co GmbH . The letters "NE" stand for Heinrich Nebenzahl, "RO" for Richard Oswald. In 1927 the company was converted from a GmbH into a stock corporation. Under the influence of Nebenzahl's son Seymour Nebenzahl , Nero-Film, which initially relied on mass-market goods such as Harry Piel films, developed into one of Germany's artistically ambitious production companies in the late 1920s, with directors such as GW Pabst and Fritz Lang produced a number of the most important films of the Weimar period, such as Pandora's Box , Western Front 1918 , The Threepenny Opera , M , Comradeship , The Lady of Atlantis and The Testament of Dr. Mabuse . In the film industry, the bourgeois-democratic Nero-Film - alongside the proletarian Prometheus Film - formed the last artistic bulwark against the emerging National Socialism . After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, Seymour Nebenzahl was forced to emigrate and Nero-Film AG had to stop its work. In Paris and Los Angeles he then ran various film production companies under the renowned name of Nero Film.
