from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mensfelden gallery grave is a possible megalithic grave complex from the Neolithic near Mensfelden , a district of Huenelden in the Limburg-Weilburg district ( Hesse ). In 2001 a single large slab of reef limestone was discovered while plowing in a field near Mensfelden . It has a length of 1.2 m, a width of 0.7 m and a thickness between 0.4 m and 0.5 m. The nearest natural occurrence of reef limestone is about 5 km from where the plate was found. Human skeletal remains were also found in their vicinity. An archaeological investigation of the site that could clarify the exact appearance of the tomb has not yet taken place. The bones found were examined at the University of Mainz .
