Galveias is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Ponte de Sor . 1061 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011).
history
The place was probably founded in 1342 by Frei Lourenço Afonso, a grand master of the Knightly Order of Avis . In 1512 Galveias received its first town charter from King D. Manuel I , and in 1538 King D. João III raised it. the place to the small town ( Vila ). In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the Miguelistenkrieg that followed in 1834 , the Galveias district was dissolved and Ponte de Sor was incorporated.
economy
The community is dominated by agriculture. The olive oils and wines produced here are known nationwide. The community is also known for its oranges and poultry. Regionally, the municipal outdoor swimming pool complex Oásis Parque, which opened in 2007, is also a tourist attraction.
