Gamberk ( German  Gallenberg ) is a ruined castle near Zagorje ob Savi ( German  Seger an der Sau ) in central Slovenia . It is not far from the once important trade route from Ljubljana via Moravče and Marija Reka to the Savinjska dolina .

history

The castle, which was probably built in the late 12th or early 13th century, was first mentioned in a document in 1248. As far as is known, the builder was the Bavarian noble Gall family , who played an important role in Carniola . In 1248 Wilbirge, daughter of Konrad Gall zu Gallenberg, issued a certificate. The earlier assumption that Ortolf III. Von Scherfenberg is said to have been the builder, is not documented in writing.
