The Gamlang Razi ( Burmese : ဂမ္ လန္ ရာ ဇီ) is the highest or second highest mountain in Southeast Asia and lies in the border triangle of the Myanmar Kachin state with India and China . It is covered by snow and glaciers all year round. According to the Myanmar Survey Department, it consists mainly of granite. It has an altitude of 5870 meters and is located in the Hkakabo-Razi National Park , to which the 4000 km² region in northern Myanmar, which has not yet been developed for tourism, was declared on December 30, 1996. The park is named after the neighboring Hkakabo Razi, which to date has the status of the highest mountain in Southeast Asia at 5,881 meters, but was probably classified 100 m too high.
Alpinism
The first ascent and measurement of the Gamlang Razi took place on September 7, 2013 by a mixed team from Myanmar and America, namely: Andy Tyson as expedition leader, Molly Tyson, Chris Nance, Mark Fisher, Eric Daft (ED), Pyae Phyo Aung and Win Ko Codes. This expedition was mainly sponsored by the Htoo Foundation , the founder of which is a Burmese tycoon named Tay Za . Other sponsors were Myanmar Phon Yin Travel Agency, Air Bagan , AGD Bank, Aureum Palace Hotel and Treasure Resorts. If the weather cooperates, the base camp can be reached in around two weeks - the route there leads through dense rainforest with numerous river crossings.
