Gangolf von Kieseritzky

Reinhold Gustav Gangolf of Kieseritzky (born September 18, jul. / Thirtieth September  1847 greg. In Fellin , † December 28, 1903 jul. / 10. January  1904 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a Baltic German Classical archaeologist .

From 1867 to 1873 he studied classical philology and archeology at the University of Dorpat , from 1873 to 1874 he studied in Munich with Heinrich von Brunn . On April 15, 1876, he obtained his master's degree in philology in Dorpat with a work by Nike in vase painting . He then toured Italy and Greece for several years on a Russian state scholarship. In 1880 he became a curator at the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg , where in 1887 he succeeded his friend Ludolf Stephani as chief curator of the Classical Antiquities.
